June 16 - Journey from Maryland to Cliff Dwellers Lodge/Marble Canyon

We had an early flight out of Baltimore (BWI) and were in Las Vegas by 9:30AM.   We met up with two of our party -- Jeff G. and his son Kevin -- and decided to have a cocktail while waiting for another member of the party Stan.   Here Lynnette enjoys a Bloody Mary adorned by a large piece of bacon!

Viva Las Vegas!   The five of us hopped into our rental SUV, had lunch, then drove from Las Vegas to Marble Canyon, Arizona.  It was a pretty drive through country decidedly different from what we are used to in Maryland.

We arrived at the Cliff Dwellers Lodge, Restaurant and Trading Post in Marble Canyon where we would spend the night.  Hatch River Expedition has a facility right next door.  Our adventure would begin here tomorrow morning.

From Cliff Dwellers Lodge, looking east, is nothing but desert -- with the Colorado River running through it unseen in a canyon within a canyon.  Notice the rainbow in the background.

Ready for the big adventure!

Like I said.  Nothing but desert.

I wonder why they call it the Cliff Dwellers Lodge?
